The EzRaid Dual Swap IDE RAID enclosure is the easiest way you'll find to set up a RAID backup system for your IDE drives. The DD3 EzRaid requires two contiguous (touching) external drive bays.
Secure the DD3 EzRaid in the open drive bays and attach the provided IDE (Parallel ATA) and power cables to the computer. Then slip an IDE drive into each of the EzRaid 's removable drive caddies, return the caddies to the unit and lock them in. The DD3 EzRaid will set up your mirror and make sure your drives remain identical. Every time you save data to your drive, the DD3 EzRaid will automatically send the information to both drives, so you always have an exact (and bootable, where applicable) duplicate of your drive and all the information it contains.
If one of the drives fails, an alarm will sound to let you know a drive needs to be replaced and the other drive will take over automatically. Optional mirroring utilities are included for the Linux and Windows operating systems but are not required. The DD3 EzRaid can handle all RAID backup functions from its front panel buttons and LCD. Push some buttons, make a few choices and your RAID mirroring chores will be done.
To replace a failed drive, just unlock and remove the caddy containing the bad drive and replace it with a new one. There's no need to bring your system down. The EzRaid caddies are designed for hot swap drive changes. Just re-insert the caddy with the new drive and the EzRaid will rebuild the mirror for you in the background.
The DD3 EzRaid requires no driver or IRQ. It sends data to both drives simultaneously so there's no lag time and no performance hit on your computer. Because it can work independently of any software, it can be used with any operating system.
If your computer is outfitted with SATA drives, please consider using our SATA DD4 Dual Swap+.
